McEachern's Schon Madchen

"Madchen"

October 26, 1990 - September 26, 1996

You fought hard to stay alive, my friend.
In the end, though, you could not conquer death.
But neither did death conquer you.
Because death cures all diseases,
mends all broken bones,
breaks all chains,
And made you free at last.

You will live on in my memory
and in the part of me that became what it is because of you.
No one can know all of what is beyond death,
But I understand a little more than I did yesterday.
For a piece of my soul, torn out by its very roots,
Went with you across the great divide,
And I know I'll regain it only when I join you there.
Sleep softly my beloved, in gentleness, and pain-free peace.
And always know that I love you still.
My hope remains that I was somehow to you
as much as you were to me.
